It is an ambitious but entirely conventional crowd pleaser, with the requisite quota of thrills firmly in place : an illusion of heights, depths and distances, myriad surprise details ( an amethyst rope of a river, cliffs that have the fleshy color and marbled texture of raw beef ), and two tiny figures in the foreground that provide scale.
